As the world leans into darkness, our nervous systems often follow. The long nights, the cold air, the emotional heaviness — it can all feel like someone dimmed an internal switch you didn’t consent to.

Essential oils can’t fix winter, but they can offer an anchor when everything feels too loud, too quiet, or too much.

My favourite grounding oils for late November introspection and returning to one’s self :

  • Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana) — like leaning against a steady tree.
  • Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) — a soft exhale in oil form.
  • Frankincense (Boswellia carterii) — the bridge between body and spirit.
  • Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) – mixed with Frankincense, it feels like a big emotional hug.

This is a warm, comforting, cave-like blend, for those nights you need to wind down and reconnect with you.  With the lights turned low, and a candle lit, this blend is the perfect combination:

  • 2 drops Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana)
  • 2 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
  • 1 drop Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
  • 1 drop Roman Chamomile (if needed: adds emotional softness) (Chamaemelum Nobile)

Why it works:
Cedarwood + Frankincense gives the grounding.
Lavender + Chamomile gives the stillness.

This blend is warm, safe, and deeply calming — perfect for November introspection.

Let it run while you settle into a book, a journal, or the pure rebellion of doing absolutely nothing.

Safety:   If you decide to make a roller bottle of this to put on your skin, remember that you will need to add 10 mL of “carrier” oil such as Jojoba (Ho-HO-ba) wax (also known as Jojoba oil, but it is technically a wax), Olive oil, Coconut oil, etc.  Regardless of the brand, essential oils should NEVER be put onto your skin without a fatty oil (“carrier”).

Closing Note: Winter asks for gentleness, not productivity. The plants know this — and they remind us quietly.
